Have you ever wondered why certain stresses or challenges seem to affect some people more than others? Or why some people can work
through major life events such as being fired, financial problems, getting divorced or losing a loved one while others seem unable to cope,
with difficult life events?
My interventions tend to be holistic, integrative, and collaborative. I’m not only mindful of emotional awareness, effective thinking patterns,
and personal or interpersonal coping skills, but also of the understanding that our ability to handle hardship is directly related to our brain’s
health. Since the brain is the central organ of learning, loving, and behaving, knowing how to care for your brain is one of the first and most
important steps to success, in anything we do.
What we feed or don’t feed ourselves,
effects our brains and bodies, which in turn effects the choices and
decisions we make. Scientific evidence
shows that your mind has a
powerful influence
on everything- your appearance, your mood, your stress levels, and your
overall health. You can
have all the communication
and people skills you need, but if your brain and body are not healthy, putting
those skills into action is difficult if not
sometimes, impossible. Ask
yourself: is my behavior getting me what I want in life- in my
relationships? At home? At work? Financially? Physically?
Emotionally? Spiritually? You will
be amazed at how quickly you can change your life around by considering
the big picture.
If
you are stressed out, sad, anxious, emotionally depleted, unable
to focus, concentrate, or care about home, work, school, people,
or
outside interests-
gaining insight, skills, and understanding is imperative. My approach
includes learning new
strategies to improve your personal,
family, and working
relationships. To receive full benefit of our work together, it is my belief all
must be attended to for balance, harmony, and a sense
of well being!
Approach:
My approach is a collaborative one where my goal is to develop caring, respectful relationships. My intention is to foster a non-judging, compassionate
environment in which people can explore and find balance in mind, body, and spirit, in order to grow and work toward having a fulfilling life.
I work with people who may be in personal or employment/academic transition, who may have relationship issues, sadness, or inordinate amounts
of stress, which may manifest as grief, panic, anger, or focus and concentration issues.
My experience includes 15 years as a teacher, 8 years as a counselor, 2 years as vocational counselor, several years as academic and organizational
coach in addition to my clinical work as an EASA (Early Assessment Support Alliance) service coordinator and therapist at Lifeworks NW
where I worked with 15-25 year old young people, experiencing first break psychosis.
